ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - St. Cloud's area Toys for Tots drive is in its stretch run, but organizers say distributing gifts to more than 2,800 needy area kids signed up for the program this year has not been an easy task.

Local Marines with the U.S. Marine Corps League, Valhalla Detachment will continue handing out those Christmas presents next week, but Catholic Charities emergency services program supervisor Kathryn Stolpman said donations were down a bit this year and they could still use some last-minute help to make sure every child gets at least one toy under the tree this year.

"We are hoping that we see a lot more donations before next Tuesday," Stolpman said. "We really need them."

Stolpman said that with many businesses and organization wrapping up their charitable drives for the season, she hoped some late donations of toys would come in to help save the day.

While it was difficult to determine exactly how many toys were still needed to meet the season's goals, Stolpman said of particular need were more new unwrapped items for older children between the ages of 12 and 16.

Stolpman said any new toy donations can make a difference. New, unwrapped toys, gift cards, or cash donations and be dropped off directly at Catholic Charities offices, 157 Roosevelt Road, Ste. 100 in St. Cloud.

The first group of Toys for Tots presents were distributed Thursday. The remaining items were set to be handed out next Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 22.
