CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (AP) - A former state worker has been charged with manslaughter in the drowning of a severely disabled man at a state-owned group home in Isanti County.

Prosecutors charged 62-year-old Devra C. Stiles of Pine City on Thursday in the death of 56-year-old Gerald Hyska on Aug. 28. She was arrested on Thursday and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

The criminal complaint alleges that she was bathing Hyska when she left him to answer the phone. She later told investigators she forgot about Hyska, and when she ran back to the tub she found him submerged.

Prosecutors say she pulled him out of the tub, began CPR and called 911 but Hyska died at a local hospital.

The Minnesota Human Services Department says it no longer employs Stiles.
