ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - While Minnesotans are closely divided on whether or not to legalize marijuana, a majority are accepting of legalizing it for medicinal purposes - this was one finding in a newly-released survey performed by St. Cloud State University.

The data finds 76 percent of adult survey-takers support marijuana as prescribed by a doctor for medical use. 20 percent oppose it, and four percent were not sure.

However, when survey takers were asked about the legalization of marijuana in general, 48 percent responded no, 46 percent said yes, and 6 percent were undecided.

Legalized marijuana found 65 percent support in the 18-24 age category. Support falls as survey-takers age, with 54 percent from those between 25-34, and 47 percent for people between the ages of 35-44 in favor of legalization.

45 percent of survey-takers admitted to trying marijuana at least once.

The survey was performed between Oct 20-27 of 2013. The 626 participants around the state were contacted by phone banks of 48 trained and staff-supervised SCSU students.
