ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - A St. Cloud 16 year-old is jailed after being caught by police after a burglary, and now authorities are trying to determine if he's responsible for similar past crimes.

St. Cloud Police Lt. Jeff Oxton says officers were called to a report of a burglary in progress on Monday around 1:30 pm at a home in the 3100 block of Veterans Drive.

While en route to the home, officers were informed that the homeowner had discovered a lone suspect, who had forced their way into the house and was spotted rummaging through personal belongings.

The suspect then spotted the homeowner and fled on foot.

When officers arrived, they set up a perimeter and used a Stearns County K9 bloodhound to track the suspect.

Officials then received word that a citizen reported spotting the suspect in the 2700 block of 7th street north. They chased him into the area of 25th Avenue and 5th Street North before catching him.

The suspect intially gave a false name to police, but his actual name and age were eventually uncovered.

He was arrested, at which point officers discovered he was in possession of stolen property. The discovery led officers to a second residential burglary site in the 1000 block of 33rd Avenue North.

The suspect does have two outstanding warrants for felony burglary. He was taken to Stearns County Jail on charges of 1st and 2nd degree burglary, Gross Misdemeanor False Information to Police and for the outstanding warrants.

No one was injured during the chase.

Police are now investigating past area burglaries to determine if the suspect is related to them.
