MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman has confirmed Adrian Peterson's time with the team is over.

Oakland running back Latavius Murray signed a three year $15 million contract with the Vikings in the early morning hours Thursday.

Spielman said he texted Peterson at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday morning and informed him of the Murray deal, clarifying that the franchise's all-time leading rusher will be playing elsewhere in 2017.

Peterson played 10 seasons for the Vikings rushing for 11,747 career yards and 97 touchdowns.

AP was the 2012 league MVP, after rushing for 2,097 yards and scoring 12 TD's.

Murray, who will join Jerick McKinnon as the team's top two running backs, spent four years with the Raiders.

Murray rushed for 788 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns last season despite missing two games with a toe injury.
