DULUTH, Minn. (AP) Wolf experts from 19 nations are gathering in Duluth for a major symposium focused on the future of the animal and its interactions with people.

The International Wolf Center global event is the first since 2005 and has the most registrants of the conferences staged by the Minnesota-based organization.

Across the world, wolves face many issues. Their prey and habitat is under threat in places like Russia. Farmers are pressing for more wolf killing in France. And wolf hunts are held in Minnesota, Wisconsin and soon Michigan.

The Wolf Center's Nancy Gibson says the symposium features wolf advocates, researchers and wildlife managers who represent opposing viewpoints on how humans should treat wolves. A debate on hunting, trapping and wolf protection is set for Saturday.
