ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A woman is accused of trying to pass a fake bill in Waite Park less than a week after police warned about counterfeit money being used in the area.

Jamie Lee Braun, 35, of Albany was arrested in the drive-thru window at KFC, 1004 2nd Street South, around 2:15 Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the restaurant by an employee who suspected the car in the drive-thru had given them a fake $50 bill.

The employee said that the bill didn’t feel right and they suspected it was counterfeit right away.

Police arrived and spoke to the people in the car. Braun was in the back seat.

A criminal complaint states Braun admitted to police that she tried to pay with a fake $50 bill and she knew it was counterfeit.

Police say when Braun was booked into jail she had a small amount of methamphetamine in her pocket.

She is charged with offering counterfeit currency and 5th degree drug possession.

Braun was released from jail on Wednesday morning.

Her next Court Date is June 9th.

The arrest comes less than a week after police warned about counterfeit bills circulating throughout the St. Cloud area.

Investigators say they have received a number of calls about fake $20 and $50 being used at gas stations, restaurants, bait shops and garage sales.

Anyone with information on the counterfeit bills are asked to call the St. Cloud Police Department at 251-1200 or Tri-County Crime Stoppers at 255-1301.
