The Silver Springers defeated the LeSueur Legends 2-0 in their first game of the State Tournament on Saturday August 26th in Jordan. In their second game the Silver Springers defeated the Jordan Millers 11-1 on Sunday August 27th. They won the Class A Title this season, as they were the defending champions in the AA division. They compiled a very good 17-2 record on the season, I am sure they will be looking to get back to challenge for the AA title again next season! Special Note: Veteran Lefty Joe Kounkel pitched both games of the state tournament last weekend, we may have to call him iron man, instead of lefty!

The Silver Springers defeated their River Valley League foe the Legends of LeSueur in a great pitching dual. The Silvers got on the board in the first inning and they never looked back. Derek Falde got on by way of a single and Greg "The Cat" Terres smacked a two run home run. The Monticello Pole Cats Co-Manager Joe Kounkel shut the door on the Legends, he threw a complete game to earn the win. He scattered 4 hits, issued no walks and he recorded two strikeouts. That is what you call, letting the defense to the rest, it wasn't perfect, but very close to it! Again "The Cat" led the offense with his big two run home run, he also earned a walk. Todd Steil went 1-3, Derek Falde went 1-2 and he scored a run and Mike Arnold was hit by a pitch. Rod Schafer "the ageless wonder" called and caught a great game from behind the plate. He was hit by a pitch and he had a stolen base.

The Legends, Nate Kube, threw a complete game, he gave up just three hits, issued one walk and he recorded one strikeout. The Legends did play perfect defense, as they played errorless ball. Cole Thorson went 1-2, Greg Drent went 1-3, Geoff Gilman went 1-3 and Mike Milam went 1-1 for the Legends.

The Silver Springers defeated their River Valley League South foe the Millers of Jordan. They were 12-4 in the South division, finishing behind only the Burnsville Bulldogs. A team the Silver Springers are very familiar with, as they competed with them the past couple of seasons for the AA title. The Silvers banged out 10 hits, including two home runs and four doubles on their way to the championship. Again "Iron Man" Lefty Joe started on the mound for the Silvers, he threw a complete game to earn the victory. He scattered 4 hits, surrendered one run, issued no walks and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Tod Steil the former long time Springer great, had an awesome game, he went 2-3 with a home run and a double for 3 big RBI's, he earned a walk and he scored 2 runs. Greg "The Cat' Terres again was roaming center field like a bobcat, he went 2-4 with a double and he scored a pair of runs. The long time Central Valley League Star, Mike Arnold went 1-4 with a big 3 run home run. The former Bluffton Brave great, Todd Van Erp went 1-2 with a double for a RBI. Derek Falde a former Delano Tiger great and Delano "A" Great went 1-3 with a double for a RBI and he scored a run. Brent Schloe the former Apollo Eagle and Johnnie great went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored a run. Greg "Boomer" Bemboom a Hall of Fame Athletic of Sauk Rapids High School was credited with a RBI, he earned a walk and he scored a run. Greg did flash just a little leather at shortstop thru out the game and the whole season! Rod Schafer the former University of Minnesota Gopher Star Catcher was the catcher for both games, he scored a run in the championship game. Andy Auger a Hill Murray High School and Johnnie Star went 1-1 and he scored a run.

I am sure all the Silver Springers are already looking forward to next season after they get healed and rest up over the off season!
