St. Cloud Tech Cyclones Baseball Report


The St. Cloud Technical Community College Cyclones play in the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Minnesota Community College League includes 17 different schools. All the Minnesota Schools are in Region 13; which includes teams from North Dakota and Wisconsin. Check out the Cyclones school web site for further information.

The Cyclones defeated the Pioneers for their first Conference win of the season and a 19-4 overall record. They pounded out 12 hits, including four extra base hits, to give their starting pitcher great support. Ricardo Garcia, a sophomore from Goldman High School of Florida, started on the mound for the Cyclones and he battled the Pioneers for 7 innings. The 6'3" right hander scattered 9 hits, surrendered 4 runs, 1 walk and he recorded 9 strikeouts. He threw 99 pitches, including 72 strikes for 73% strikes.

The Cyclones had a very good offensive game led by Matt Quade, a freshman from Paynesville High School. Matt went 3-3 with a 3 run home run and a double for 4 big RBI's and he scored 2 runs, he was walked intentionally. Johnathon Fernandez a 6'3" first baseman, sophomore from Slam Charter School in Florida had a bases loaded triple for 3 big RBI's and he scored a run. Fabio Espinosa Gutierrez the Cyclones catcher, a sophomore from Bolivar, Colombia went 1-3 with a double. Isaiah Almanza the Cyclones shortstop, a sophomore from Deming High School of New Mexico, went 2-4 and he scored 3 runs. Carlos Reyes the Cyclones designated hitter a freshman from Hialeah High School of Florida went 2-4 and Mitch Kurth the Cyclones right fielder a sophomore from Hutchinson High School went 1-3. Zach Fuecker, the Cyclones left fielder, a freshman from Sauk Rapids High School went 2-3 and he scored a run. Ethan Carlson the Cyclones center fielder, a freshman from St. Cloud Apollo High School, had a sacrifice bunt and Matt Johnson a freshman form Sauk Rapids High School scored a run as a pinch runner.

Matt Howell was the Pioneers starting pitcher and he did pitch a complete game, thus he was the pitcher of record. Brock Saparto went 4-4 with 2 doubles for a RBI and he scored 2 runs and Carlos Tupo went 3-4 with a 2 run home run.


The Cyclones pounded the ball for 10 hits, that was enough support for their starting pitcher, Johnathon Sodergren. A sophomore from Bloomington Kennedy High School threw 5 innings to earn the win. He scattered 6 hits, surrendered 2 runs and he recorded 7 strikeouts. The Cyclones are now 20-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Conference and this past week they were ranked No. 5 in the country among Division 3 Community Colleges schools.

The Cyclones were led by Adam Gilsrud a sophomore from Andover High School, he went 2-2 with 2 big RBI's. Isaiah Almanza went 2-3 and he scored a run and Zach Fuecker went 1-3 with a double and he scored a run. Matt Quade stays hot, he went 1-3 with a RBI and he scored a run. Fabio Espinosa-Gutierrez went 1-2 with a double. Jose Rosario the Cyclones center fielder, a freshman from Fernando Collejo High School of Puerto Rico went 2-2. Johnathon Fernandez went 1-2 and Ethan Carlson scored a run as a pinch runner.

Henry Pesch was the Pioneers starting pitcher and their pitcher of record. Blake Fetting went 2-2 with a double and he scored a run, Brock Saparto went 1-2 with a RBI and Drew Chesley went 1-2 with a RBI.
