St. Cloud Technical College Baseball Round-Up


The St. Cloud Technical Community College Cyclones play in the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Minnesota Community College League includes 17 different schools. All the Minnesota Schools are in Region 13; which includes teams from North Dakota and Wisconsin. Check out the Cyclones school web site for further information.

The Cyclones defeated North Division rival the Itasca Vikings, they collected 12 hits, including five extra base hits. The starting pitcher for the Cyclones Jonathan Sodergren a sophomore from Bloomington Kennedy High School. He threw 6 innings, scattered 8 hits, walked 4, surrendered 3 runs and he recorded a pair of strikeouts to earn the win. Jake Brinker a freshman from Rocori High School retired one batter, he gave up 4 hits, 1 walk, 2 runs and he recorded a strikeout. Lukas Lanner a freshman from North High School of Eau Claire, Wisconsin retired the last two batters and he recorded a strikeout.

Five of the Cyclones had multiple hit games; led by the hot hitting freshman from Paynesville High School, Matt Quade. He went 2-3 with 2 doubles for 2 RBI's, 1 walk and he had a stolen base. Zach Fuecker a freshman from Sauk Rapids High School had a very good game, he went 2-3 with a triple, he scored 3 runs, 1 walk and he had a stolen base. He made a couple very nice catches from his left field position. Ethan Carlson a freshman from St. Cloud Apollo High School went 2-3 with a triple for a RBI, scored 3 runs and he walked. Mitch Kurth a sophomore from Hutchinson High School went 2-4 with a RBI and he scored a run. Isaiah Almanza a sophomore, from Deming High School in New Mexico, went 2-4 with 3 big RBI's, 2 stolen bases and he scored a pair of runs. Isaiah had a very good game at his defensive shortstop position. Adam Gilsrud a sophomore from Andover Hight School had a very busy game, he went 1-2, with a run scored, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to drive in a run. Fabio Espinosa, a sophomore from Bolivar, Colombia went 1-4 with a double and he scored a run.

Nick Johnson was the starting pitcher and the pitcher of record for the Vikings. Tanner Shepard went 2-3 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI and he scored a run. Austin Mesenbrink went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Kody Ahlstrand went 2-3. Anthony Azor went 1-2 with 2 walks and a home run off the scoreboard.


The Cyclones collected 11 hits and they had very good pitching efforts to defeat their second division rival the Rangers. Ismael Martinez a 6'2" sophomore from Coral Glades High School of Hialeah, Florida started the pitching duties, he threw 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and he recorded 7 strikeouts. Micheal Leffler a 6'2" sophomore from Dassel Cokato High School threw 1 1/3 innings of relief to earn the save. He faced five batters and he recorded 4 strikeouts.

The Cyclones had four players with multi hit games; led by Isaiah Almanza, a sophomore from Deming High School of New Mexico, went 2-2 with a triple for 2 big RBI's, he walked twice and scored a pair of runs. Matt Quade a freshman from Paynesville High School went 2-4 with double and a RBI. Matt continued to made some great plays at his 3rd base position. Jonathon Fernandez a 6'3" sophomore from SLAM Charter School of Doral, Florida wen 2-3 with a double for a RBI and he scored 2 runs. Jonathon is like a vacuum at his first base position. Justin Mohs a freshman from St. Cloud Tech High School went 2-2 with 2 big RBI's, he had a stolen base and he scored a run. Ethan Carlson a freshman from St. Cloud Apollo High School went 1-3 with a stolen base and Carlos Reyes a freshman from Hialeah High School of Florida went 1-4 with a stolen base and he scored a run. Fabio Espinosa Gutierrez a sophomore from Bolivar, Colombia went 1-3 with a walk. Fabio continues to call and play a very good game from his catcher position. Adam Gilsrud earned a walk and he continues to make great plays at third base. Zach Fuecker had a sacrifice bunt and he earned a walk. Zach covers a lot of ground in left field, as he continues to play great defense.

Devin Mayry was the Rangers starting pitcher and pitcher of record. David Ochoa went 2-3 with a double and a triple for 2 RBI's. John Moringlane went 1-3 with a RBI.
