Fort Myers, Fla. (KNSI) - This is my last report from the sunshine state here on this 2013 excursion. The plane is waiting at the gate to wing me back to you fine folks in the thawing north.

But by no means is my heart the least bit heavy about returning home. Look what awaits, in less than a week, opening day 2013 and the talking can cease. We will be able to see just what this Twins ball club of ours will be made of.

As I fly out the Twins are welcoming the St. Louis Cardinals to our friend Hammond Stadium for one of their final spring games. After they wrap up this week, the 25 men in blue and red will board a jet and follow my path. Among them, hopeful sensation Aaron Hicks. He has never seen the light of day in a Triple-A uniform but will sprint to the cavernous environs of center field on April 1st as your opening day center fielder and leadoff hitter.

Some questions still remain, like, who will Hicks be backing defensively as the Opening Day starter? Could be Vance Worley, maybe, who knows? Just Ron Gardenhire I suppose. One thing known is it will not be Scott Diamond. Though if all goes well he will not be far behind your Twins heroes to join the rotation sometime in the second week of April.

The overwhelming feeling I got from everyone in and around Twins camp was positive and up-beat. It seemed there is a group down here that recognizes there are plenty of challenges(a new rotation, a difficult division, staying injury free, etc.) but they also see those challenges as opportunities to succeed at a high level. A level Minnesota Twins fans have come to expect.

Aside from the baseball, one more note on Fort Myers. You like baseball? Beaches? Nature? Good food? A winter weather break? Then there is zero reason you shouldn't consider heading down here in March. A perfect getaway in a naturally idyllic setting.

So the plane is waiting, much like the emending season, poised and ready for take-off. While our spring coverage is over, don't let that fool you. KNSI Radio will still bring you the best in depth coverage of the Twins in St. Cloud. Interviews, features and reports all season long, from the big ball-park downtown, right back here to Central Minnesota.

It has been my pleasure filing reports from Florida this week. I hope they were entertaining informative, and above all brought a little warmth, sunshine and baseball to your early spring.

Baseball is coming, just around the corner, six months of summer-time bliss.
