ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) – Huskies, Johnnies and Cyclones...oh my. Three of the St. Cloud area college baseball teams will continue their post-seasons after success in regional and conference tournaments late last week.

Squads from St. John's University and St. Cloud Technical and Community college each won tournaments over the weekend to advance, while the St. Cloud State baseball team, after a dominating 45 win season, will move on to the regional round despite a disappointing loss in their tournament championship game.

The Huskies (45-12) stormed unbeaten through the opening rounds of the NSIC tournament last week, setting a new school mark for overall wins and consecutive wins (20) in the process. Top seed and host Minnesota State University then swept a championship away from SCSU with a pair of wins Saturday. The next step for the Huskies is a return trip to Mankato, site of the NSIC tournament, for the NCAA Central Region tournament beginning Thursday when they face Winona State. SCSU will be the number two seed in the regional.

For the St. John's University Johnnies, a conference tournament win was their best hope at extending their season to the NCAA Division III regional round. But the Johnnies didn't shy away from their tough task, beating top seeded rival St. Thomas 10-5 for the championship Saturday. The final MIAC tournament win was the 29th of the season for St. John's, tying a school record set when they made their first run to the NCAA Tournament in 1994. Wednesday the Johnnies travel to McMinnville, Oregon for their first round regional game against Concordia of Texas, the top seed in the region.

Of the three area teams moving on in post season play, the Cyclones of St. Cloud Technical and Community College are the fewest steps away from a National Title. After winning the NJCAA Region 13 tournament, hosted in St. Cloud, this weekend, the Cyclones are off to Tyler, Texas for the NJCAA Division III World Series beginning on Saturday May, 19.

The Cyclones ended the season with a mark of 41-7 and were the number six team in the country in the last regular season polls. This will be the first time the Cyclones have advanced to the NJCAA World Series, and they will not have an easy draw in the first round. SCTCC will match up in the first round against the host school of the event, Tyler College, a 38 win team this season. With just four more victories, the Cyclones can capture their first national title.
