MINNEAPOLIS, Minn (KNSI) - It was all about the nine spot in the order on Wednesday. Three different hitters combined to go 3-4 with 3 RBI as the Minnesota Twins got their first win of the season, 3-2 over the Detroit Tigers in walk off fashion thanks to a game winning double from Eduardo Escobar. Wilkin Ramirez translated Escobar's thoughts on being the hero.

Ramirez had a big hit himself, pinch hitting in the 9 spot, when he picked up the first Twins hit of note this season with a pinch double to score the first run for Minnesota in the bottom of the 7th. The knock and RBI, that made it 2-1 Detroit, were both firsts of the season for Ramirez.

Escobar, who came in to play short stop after Pedro Florimon was lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh, gets credit for the first big hit of the season for the Twins. Manager Ron Gardenhire thought Wednesday's game highlighted the many opportunities baseball can bless you with.

In his Twins, and American League debut Twins starter Kevin Correia looked supremely confident. He allowed a run on a five hopper in the third and a two out walk came back to bite him in the fifth. But the righty with 10 years behind him in the NL, was quick to point out, he may have not gotten to stay in that close game in years past.

With the no need to pinch hit, Gardenhire is looking for that kind of start from each and every one of his arms.

The combination of cold, shadows and the command of Anibal Sanchez held Minnesota down through the first five. Sanchez allowed both of the Twins hits and walked three, but also punched out five hitters, including three looking.

With the big hits coming from the 8 and 9 spots Wednesday, the two through five spots in the order went just 1-for-12 with three walks. Number three hitter Josh Willingham said the beauty is they still found a way to win.

Get away Thursday will wrap up the first home-stand at 12:10. For the third straight game a Twins starter will make his Minnesota debut as Mike Pelfrey will get the ball against Detroit's Rick Porcello.
