Sports for Thursday, June 12th


MLB: Twins 7, Blue Jays 2

-       Phil Hughes was great, 7 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts

-       Joe Mauer went 3-4, raising his average to .263

-       Brian Dozier left with a back injury and is day-to-day

-       Twins are off tonight, @ Detroit starting tomorrow


-       Twins sent Josmil Pinto back to Triple-A where he can play every day. With Morales now on the roster, there are limited AB's.


-       Ron Gardenhire was named to the All-Star coaching staff, and will be at the mid-summer classic.


NHL: Rangers 2, Kings 1

-       Rangers stay alive, still trail in the series 3-1

-       Henrik Lundquist had 40 saves in the win

-       Game 5 is Friday night, in LA


NBA: Finals Game 4, Spurs @ Heat, tip-off at 8pm

-       Spurs lead the series 2-1

-       Spurs are 15-3 under Popovich, when leading a series 2-1


-       There will be a four day trial, July 7th-10th, to determine whether or not Donald Sterling should have a say in the sale of the Clippers


-       Kevin Love spoke out yesterday on his situation: "No matter what the outcome is, I just want to end up in a great place where I can win, at the end of the day, I've played six years, haven't made the playoffs yet, that burns me and hurts my heart, so I really want to be playing."



-       WR Jerome Simpson said that he is worth more than the Vikings are paying him, citing his off the field issues, he claimed that he is a steal on his one-year, one-million dollar contract.

-       According to reports, Chicago is the favorite for the 2015 NFL Draft


Northwoods League: Moondogs 4, Rox 1

-       Rox have now dropped two in a row

-       Road trip continues for the Rox, in Thunder Bay for two, first pitch tonight is at 6:05pm

-       Rox are home this Saturday and Sunday



State Baseball Championships

-       Class 2A: St. Cloud Cathedral got the top seed for the 2nd year in a row, they will take on The Blake School, Thursday, pregame on 660am at 9:30AM from Putz Field in St. Cloud

-       Class 3A: Brainerd is unseeded and will take on top seeded Lakeville North Thursday, 10am at Midway Stadium in St. Paul




-       Class 2A: Rocori's Marja Sorensen is in 6th place after one round of play after shooting a 74, two strokes off the lead. 

-       Class 3A: St. Cloud Apollo's Nikki Torgerson is in 12th after shooting a 80, 13 strokes off the lead



-       Class 2A: Albany's David Schneider shot a 74, 5 strokes off the lead, good for 12th place



Soccer: World Cup gets started today

-       Brazil vs. Croatia getting started on group play, 2pm

-       United States gets started on Monday vs. Ghana



-       US Open kickoffs this morning with no Tiger Woods, who is missing another major with his back injury.

-       Odds to win; Rory McIlroy 10-1 // Adam Scott 12-1 // Phil Mickelson 14-1 // Bubba Watson 16-1

-       Pinehurst 2 is a very tough course, and the rough has been raised and greens have been hardened
