 Sports for Monday, July 7th


MLB: Yankees 9, Twins 7

-       Yankees jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 4 innings

-       Plouffe and Colabello  both homered in the loss

-       Twins are now 3-10 in their last 13

-       Twins start a road trip, keeping them away from Target Field until after the All-Star game

-       Twins @ Mariners tonight, 9:10pm first pitch, Correia (4-10) vs. Iwakuma (6-4)


-       Glen Perkins was named to his 2nd All-Star team yesterday; Kurt Suzuki was named to his first All-Star team.


-       Some former Twins are on the team as well, Carlos Gomez and Pat Neshek both made the NL team, while Justin Morneau is up for the final spot on the NL.


-       Derek Jeter was voted to his 14th, and final, All-Star game. He will start at Shortstop


-       Twins top prospect Byron Buxton has made it back on to the field after recovering from a wrist injury. Buxton has been named the top prospect in all of baseball.


Northwoods League: Rox 9, Honkers 4

-       Honkers come to town tonight to take on the Rox at Joe Faber Field, 7:05pm

-       Hot Dog Hundo night, with Eric Decker bobblehead out there tomorrow night


NASCAR: Aric Almirola (Eric AL-ma-roll-a) won his first ever NSCS race

-       A wild one, as the race was shortened after rain and saw 3 different red-flag situations

-       A 26 car wreck was the one everyone was talking about afterwards, according to reports it was the 2nd biggest crash in NASCAR history


Tennis: Novak Djokovic (Joke-a-vic) topped Roger Federer to win his 7th Grand Slam title in 5 sets

-       The win was his 2nd career Wimbledon win, he celebrated by eating some of the grass at center court


NFL: 26 days until the NFL preseason kicks off

-       Green Bay Packers CEO is pushing for the NFL Draft to come to Green Bay. The NFL has not announced where the 2015 NFL Draft will be held.


World Cup: Brazil vs. Germany, Tuesday

-       Bazil will be without Neymar, who suffered a broken vertebrae in the teams win over Columbia

-       The winner will face the winner of Argentina-Netherlands in the Final Saturday
