Sports for Monday, August 4th



NFL:  Giants 17, Bills 13

-       The Hall of Fame game was held as Michael Strahan, Walter Jones, Andre Reed, Claude Humphrey and Aeneas Williams were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

-       Michael Strahan requested that his bust include his gapped teeth, something that was granted

-       Next year Brett Favre is eligible for induction and according to hotels in Canton, Packer fans are already making their reservations. 


-       Falcons rookie DE, and former Gopher, Ra'shede Hageman broke his wrist after punching a team mate during practice on Sunday


-       Vikings kick start their season Friday night against the Oakland Raiders at TCF Bank stadium


MLB: Twins 16, White Sox 3

-       Twins banged out 23 hits on their way to the lopsided win

-       The game was 4-3 Twins heading into the 8th inning (scored 9 in 8th, 3 in the 9th)

-       Danny Santana went 5-6 with 4 RBI's.


-       Twins claimed CF Jordan Schafer off of waivers from the Atlanta Braves. Schafer has struggled in the bigs, but is very good on defense.


-       Twins are off tonight, welcome in the San Diego Padres for a 3 game set starting tomorrow


-       Odd sight over the weekend, during the Reds-Marlins game Saturday night as a young girl (about 7-9 years old) ran onto the field during the 7th inning. Security went easy on the young girl as she danced and ran around the field. No idea where her parents were.


Northwoods League: Rox and the Eau Claire Express split a double header yesterday 2-0(win)/5-0(loss)

-       Rox at the Honkers tonight, first pitch is at 7:05pm

-       Rox only have 6 games left in the regular season


NBA: Kevin Love on the move

-       Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor told the media over the weekend that Kevin Love WILL be traded, probably on August 23rd or 24th. Cleveland Cavaliers #1 pick Andrew Wiggins cannot be traded until August 23rd thanks to his contract.


-       Pacers superstar Paul George had successful surgery over the weekend to repair his broken leg that he suffered Friday night during a Team USA scrimmage. Doctors say it will take nearly 3 months for him to start walking normally. He will miss at least one season, and possibly more. 


NASCAR: Dale Junior wins again

-       Dale Earnhart Jr won for the 3rd time this year as finished off the season sweep at Pocono


Golf: Tiger withdraws as Rory has a comeback

-       Rory McIlroy come from behind to top Sergio Garcia and win the Bridgestone, reclaiming the world #1 ranking

-       Tiger Woods left the tournament with a back injury. He missed two majors earlier this season with a back injury.

-       Sergio Garcia had an errant tee shot on 3rd hole and the ball struck a woman, breaking her diamond ring. Garcia signed a ball and said that he would repair the ring. The diamond was found and returned to the woman.
