The excitement from the banner raising ceremony commemorating the St. Cloud State Huskies' 2014 Penrose Cup championship came to a halt quickly as the Colgate Raiders defeated the St. Cloud State Huskies 3-1 in the 2014-15 season opener at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Colgate's Joe Wilson opened up the scoring near the midway point of the first-period after a dominant start by the Raiders. The goal was quickly followed up with a score from Lakeville, Minnesota native and former Lakeville North Panther Evan Peterson. Colgate took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

St. Cloud State's lone bright spot came in the 2nd Period when Joey Benik found the back of the net. The power play goal came just under four minutes into the second-period and cut the lead to 2-1. The 2-1 score held into the third-period while the Huskies outshot the Raiders 24-15 through the first 40 minutes of regulation.

The third-period saw three power play opportunities for the Huskies, none of which St. Cloud State was able to capitalize on. Kyle Baun scored his fourth goal in the last three meetings with the Huskies to help seal the Raiders 3-1 victory.

Game two of the series begins tomorrow at 7:07 p.m. and can be heard on Lite Rock 99.9 FM, part of the KNSI Sports Network, with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m..
