ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) – The St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones baseball team is hosting the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 13 tournament as the top seed in the eight team field. The Cyclones are the #6 team in all of NJCAA Division III and ended the season 31-5.

The Cyclones welcome Northland Community and Technical College, the eighth seed in the double elimination tournament, to Dick Putz Field for game one at 11 a.m. Thursday morning.

With a win SCTCC would move on to face the winner of the 4-5 match-up between Minnesota State Community and Technical College and Mesabi Range Community and Technical College. Both teams won 23 games on the season. The toughest test in the tournament field for the Cyclones may come from Itasca Community College, the #2 seed at 21-10. SCTCC went 0-2 against Itasca in their only meetings this year.

Several Cyclones put up solid numbers in 2012 to lead the team through its dominant regular season. At the plate, three-time Minnesota College Athletic Conference player of the week, and former St. Cloud State red-shirt, Jonathan Traetow paced the offense with a .425 average, six home runs and 43 runs batted in. On the mound Jake Lindenfelser led the pitching staff with six wins and a 2.25 era in more than 52 innings pitched.

The tournament runs through Saturday, with games played on both Joe Faber and Dick Putz Fields in St. Cloud. With four wins, the Cyclones would become region champs and make their first trip to the NJCAA DIII World Series in Tyler, Texas from May 17 to 19.
