It took just 8:54 for the Union Dutchmen to score three first period goals to help the Dutchmen to a 5-1 victory over the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday night.

Union, the defending national champions, drew first blood early in the 1st Period as Michael Pontarelli put one past Huskies goaltender Charlie Lindgren at the 1:51 mark. Two quick Union goals followed to put the Dutchmen up 3-0 with 11:06 left in the 1st. St. Cloud State coach Bob Motzko decided to pull Lindgren and replace him with Rasmus Reijola.

The Huskies were unable to put much of anything past Union senior goaltender Colin Stevens, who stopped 35 of 36 Husky shots. Stevens' shutout was broken up with just five seconds to go as Ben Storm score the lone Huskies goal. Lindgren stopped six of nine Dutchmen shots, while Reijola saw 18 shots and stopped 16 of them.

Union and St. Cloud State battle again Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.. Coverage starts at 5:30 p.m. on Lite Rock 99.9 and
