ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Even though St. Cloud Cathedral baseball player Jeff Fasching does not know what his final spring season for the Crusaders will bring, he does know where he will be headed when it ends. Wednesday Fasching inked his intention to pitch for the University of Minnesota starting next fall.

Fasching, a two sport star in baseball and football, was quick to credit his teammates for helping him get to this spot in his life. Plenty of credit also went out to his parents, including his father, Gary Fasching, the head football coach at St. Johns University.

"It was his dream in high school to play for the Gophers for the end he said Jeff we'd love to have you [at St. Johns] but I understand if you go play for the Gophers. It means a lot he was there to support me either way."

Legendary baseball coach Bob Karn saw early on from Fasching that he could throw strikes and be an effective pitcher along with hitter and fielder. But what set him apart in Karn's mind was courage.

"The fact that he's a quarterback gives him a whole other way of knowing what its like to have the ball in your hands and the rest of the people counting on you...he handles difficult situations very well."

Fasching is the second baseball player from Cathedral to move on to play DivisionĀ I college ball in the past two years. He is also one of three senior athletes from the Crusaders class of 2014 that have signed on to play sports at the Division I level.
