After splitting series with Colgate and Union to start the season, the St. Cloud State Huskies continue their splitting ways with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday afternoon. The series ends at a 1-1 split after the Huskies 4-1 victory in St. Cloud on Friday night.

The Gophers dominated the first-period, outshooting the Huskies 12-2. However, Huskies goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped all 12 shots and the first-intermission came without a goal scored.

The second-period was very different. Gophers forward Justin Kloos scored twice, including the game’s first goal that came just 12 seconds into the second-period and the second-period’s final goal with 12 seconds left in the period. The Huskies were able score two goals of their own in the second as Andrew Prochno and Ethan Prow beat Gophers goaltender Adam Wilcox.

The Gophers took a 3-2 lead early in the third-period after Connor Reily fired a shot through a screen at the 2:09 mark. It took until 5:25 left in the third-period for the Huskies to tie it, as Joey Benik found the back of the net. David Morley took a penalty just seconds later, but the Huskies killed off the penalty and the period ended in a 3-3 tie.

1:19 into overtime, Justin Kloos beat Charlie Lindgren to complete the hat-trick and win the game for the Gophers. It was Kloos’ first multi-point game since the 2014 NCAA West Region Final, in which the Gophers defeated the Huskies 4-0 to advance to the Frozen Four.

The Gophers will host Notre Dame in the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. while Minnesota-Duluth travels to St. Cloud to take on the Huskies Friday night at 7:37 p.m. with coverage on Lite Rock 99.9 starting at 7:00 p.m..
