Games Played on Wednesday July 23rd

The Springers of Cold Spring topped Lakewood League rival the Cyclones of Sauk Rapids 9-8 in a 3 hour marathon. Their were a total of 28 hits, 17 runs and I won't even mention the errors. Mathias Butala was the winning pitcher for the Springers as he threw 5 2/3 innings and Justin Thompson got the save with 3 1/3 innings of relief. Tyler Geislinger went 2-3 with a home run for 3 RBI's, he scored 2 runs and walked once. Zach Hinkemeyer went 3-5 with a double, stolen base and 2 RBI's. Zach Femrite went 3-4 with a walk and 2 RBI's, Jeron Terres went 1-4 and Joe Dempsey went 1-3 with both earning a RBI. Grant Chapa was the pitcher of record for the Cyclones, he threw 6 innings. Joel Haller had a huge night at the plate, as he went 4-5 with 2 doubles and Andy Henkemyer went 2-5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's. Derek Cagle went 3-5, Jesse Lavoi went 1-2 with 3 walks and Scott Lochner went 1-4 with a RBI and a walk. Bryce Gapenski had a big double in the bottom of the ninth for 2 RBI's.


The Saints of the St. Cloud Beaudreaus topped Lakewood League rival Brainerd 3-2 in ten innings behind the pitching efforts of Ryan Schnieder, he threw 5 innings and Brad Haag provided 4 innings of relief for the win. Ryan Schneider led the Saints offense with 2 hits and Tyler Erickson had a hit. D. J. Schliecher had a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to score Nick Hengel for the then go ahead run, it proved to be the winning run.


Game Play Friday July 25th


The Springers of Cold Spring possibly played their best game of the season as they topped Class A Millers of Minnetonka. They have won 8 times out of the last ten years the Class A championships. The Springers had an outstanding pitching performance by Zach Femrite, it was Zach's best game of the season, thus far.  He threw 7 innings, gave up just 3 hits, 2 walks and he recorded 10 strikeouts. Garrett Fuchs and Alex Jungels supplied most of the offense as they both went 3-4 with a run scored. Garrett had a big RBI early in the game. Jeron Terres went 2-4 with a RBI and a run scored, Joe Dempsey and Tyler Geislinger each had a base hit. The Springers had a total of 10 hits on the night. This was by far the best game that the team has played all season, with three league game left prior to their regional tourney.


Games Played Saturday July 26th


The Rockies of Cold Spring topped Central Valley League rival the Clippers of Watkins 9-3, behind the pitcher performance of Blaine Athmann. Blaine threw 7 innings, he scattered 5 hits, walked just 1 and he record 3 strikeouts. Jeff Lindbloom and Tyler McElwee both threw one inning of relief. The Rockies pounded out 14 hits; with Mike Holbrook having a huge day as he went 2-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's and Kevin Wenner went 2-4 with a double, 2 walks and a RBI. Paul Schreiner had a great day too, as he went 2-4 with 2 doubles and a RBI and Rick Burtzel went 1-2 with 2 big RBI's. Big John Rossman went 2-3 with a RBI, Marshall Wirtzfeld went 2-5 as he continues to stay hot and Josh Porwal went 1-2 with a double. Kevin Kramer was the pitcher of record for the Clippers as he threw 4 innings and Bruce Geislinger threw three innnings. Charlie Oltz closed it out for the Clippers. Kevin Kramer lead the Clippers offense with a 2-4 day, including a triple and 2 runs. Adam Hiltner had a home run, Dan Berg went 1-3 with sacrifice for a RBI, Dallas Evenson went 2-3 and Tyler Longe went 1-3 with a walk. The Rockies will now open region play with the Gussies of St. Augusta on Saturday August 2nd at 11:00 AM.


The Gussies of St. Augusta topped Corn Belt League foe the Saints of Sacred Heart 12-2 in game ended by the ten rule. Zach Laudenbach had an impressive pitching performance, he threw 7 innings, scattered 3 hits, walked just 3 and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Adam Gwost had a huge day as he went 3-4 with a home run, scored two runs and had 4 RBI's. Dusty Schulzetenburg went 2-3 as he had a huge triple for 3 RBI's and Matt Skaja went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Brady Grafft had a hit and a RBI and Zach Laudenbach went 1-3 with a sacrifice and a RBI. This was a play-in game for the region, the Gussies will now play the Rockies of Cold Spring on Saturday August 2 at 11:00 AM in the first round of regions. Please see the brackets shown above.


The Raymond Rockets topped Central Valley League foe the Hawks of Eden Valley 6-2 with Dan Hanson being the pitcher of record the Hawks. This ended their season as this was a play- in game for the region. Mitch Geislinger went 1-4 with 2 RBI's and Heath Kramer went 2-4 with a double. Gary Peters went 1-4 with a double and Chad Hesse, Matthew Pennertz and Nathan Geislinger all had a hit for the Hawks.


The Stone Poneys of Sartell topped East Minny West League foe Chisago Lakes Bulldogs 11-1, behind the strong pitching performance of Jeff Amann. He threw 8 innings, scattered 6 hits, walked just 2 and recorded 7 strikeouts. Jim Garbielson had a big day as he went 3-6 with 2 doubles, 3 stolen bases and 2 RBI's. Jake Wenzel also had a great day, as he went 3-5 with a double, stolen base, walk and 2 RBI's. Brandon Reinking went 2-5 with 2 RBI's, Jeff Amann went 2-4 with a walk and a RBI and Travis Moreno went 1-2 with 3 walks. This was a big win as the No. 1 seeded Poneys do advance in the league playoffs.


Games Played on Sunday July 27th


The Muskies of Sartell topped Sauk Valley League foe the Blues of Litchfield 9-1 to win the Sauk Valley League Championship. David Deminsky was the winning pitcher for the Muskies as he threw 5 innings, he gave up just 2 hits, walked one and he recorded 10 strikeouts. Travis Weaver, Cody Partch and Shane Schoen all threw an inning of relief, the relief core didn't give up any runs. Tim Burns has a big day as he went 3-5 with home run and a double for 2 RBI's and Brian Schielinger went 4-5 with 2 doubles. Luke Sweeter had a home run, Jace Otto went 2-4 and Tony Schmitz went 1-4 with 2 RBI's. Dylan Koll was the pitcher of record for the Blues. Leading their offense was Eddie Ostrada, as he went 2-4 with a home run and a double and Brady Smith went 2-4. Both the Blues and Muskies now will advance to the Regions to be held in Hinckley during the next two weekends. They will play at 4:00 against the loser of Mora or Hinckley, if they win they play Sunday at 7:00 if they lose they play 1:00.


The Express of Kimball topped Central Valley League rival the Brewers of Luxemburg 12-0 to win the Central Valley North. Matt Dingmann had an outstanding pitching performance, as he took a perfect game into the 6th inning. He gave up 2 hits in the 6th inning, walked no one and recorded 7 strikeouts. Andy Dingmann closed the game out with one inning of relief. The Express pounded out 14 hits, five of which were home runs, leading the way was Ben Johnson. Ben went 3-4 with 2 home runs, a double and 5 big RBI's. Adam Beyer had an outstanding day too, as he went 3-4 with 2 home runs, a double and 3 RBI's. Scott Marguardt went 2-5 with a home run, double and 3 RBI's, Kyle Winter went 2-4 and Austin Ruehle went 2-4. Brooks Marquardt went 1-3 with 2 walks and a RBI and Jordan Joseph went 1-4. Nick Baker took the pitching loss for the Brewers. Colton Fruth and Ethyn Fruth each had a base hit to led the Brewers. Both the Express and the Brewers will move on to region action next weekend in Watkins. The Express will play the Rockets of Raymond at 4:00 Saturday August 2nd and the Brewers will take on the Yankees of Milroy at 7:30 Friday August 1st.
