The Springers of Cold Spring topped their first round foe the Austin Blue Sox's 3-0 behind the great pitching efforts by Mathies Butala and Justin Thompson. Mathies the winning pitcher, threw 6 1/3 innings, he walks 2, scattered 3 hits and he record 9 strikeouts. Justin earned the save with 2 2/3 innings of relief, he gave up one hit and he recored 4 strikeouts! Ryan Holthaus led the Springer offense as he went 2-4 with a home run. Justin Thompson also had a huge night at the plate, as he went 1-3 with a big single for 2 RBI's in the 6 inning. Tyler Geislinger went 1-4 and Drew VanLoy went 1-2 with a walk and he scored a run. In their big sixth inning, Drew VanLoy had a single, Ryan Holthaus drove a single off the wall in left field, Alex Geislinger pinched ran for Ryan and he stole second. Justin Thompson came up and drove a lineup single over the 2nd base men into right field. The Springers will take a 26-6 record into the quarter finals next Friday evening in Belle Plaine at 7:30 against the Dundas Dukes. The Dukes topped Eagan in their first state tourney game 5-3. The Dukes will take a 28-14 record in the game, they were the Classic Cannon Valley League champions. If the Springers do win they will play Sunday evening at 7:30 in Belle Plaine.



The Saints of the St. Cloud Beaudreau's topped the number one seeded Victoria Vic's 5-4, behind the great pitching effort by Reese Gregory. Reese scattered 6 hits, walked just one and he had 9 strikeouts. Phil Imholte led the Saints with a 3-4 night, he had 3 big stolen bases, walked once and he scored 2 runs. Brian Minks, Reese Gregory, Steven Neutzling and Nick Hengel all had base hits for the Saints. Chad Hockemeyer had 2 walks and he scored a run, Will Spaniol had a stolen base and he scored a run and Waylon Bemboom had a stolen base. The Saints took a early lead, only to fall behind to the Vics on a Matt Mann 2 run homer, and the Vic's retook the lead with solo home run by Sam Rothstein a former St. Martin Martin. The Saints got two base runners on in the 9th inning and Ryan Schneider had a drive to right field for the walk off single. This was a huge upset by the Saints, they will now play on Labor Day weekend. They will play the Burnsville Bobcats with a 10-15 record, they play in the Cannon Valley League. The Bobcats topped the Austin Greyhounds in their first game 4-1.
