Games played Wednesday evening, June 4th

The Cyclones of Sauk Rapids opened their 2014 season with a win over Central Valley foe St. Augusta 4-2. This was an excellent game for both teams; Brett DeGagne earned the pitching win with 5 innings of work, as he scattered 3 hits and had 8 strikeouts. Grant Chapa earned the save with 4 innings of relief, he gave up 3 hits and had 3 strikeouts. Paul Schlangen led the way with his 2-4 performance, including a double and 3 RBI'S. Joe Haller and Andy Henkemeyer were both 2-5. Special note Nate Freihamer had his first Amateur hit in the top of the ninth. The Gussies were led by Travis Laudenbach good pitching performance as he scattered 8 hits over 9 innings. The Gussies offense was led by Dusty Schultzetenberg with his 2-5 evening including 2 doubles and Nate Laudenbach was 2-3 with 1 double. Brady Grafft had a good night at the plate too as he went 2-4.

The Avon Lakers of the Victory League and the St. Joseph Joe's ended up in a 7-7 tie after the game was called because of darkness. Josh Woods pitched 6 innings for the Joes and  Josh "Bubba" Hollenhorst threw 3 innings. Leading the Joe's offense was Caz Novak with his 2-5 performance including 2 RBI's and Willie Willats went 2-4 with 2 RBI's.

The Lakers offense was led by Ricky Hendrickson with his 1-4 night at the plate including 2 RBI's, Tony Schoenberg went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Taylor Holthaus had a home run. The Lakers had four different pitchers throw. Josh "Bubba" Hollenhorst did announce his retirement from amateur baseball, he has been dealing with numerous shoulder and arm issues.

The Stone Poneys of Sartell dropped an Eastern Minny West League game to Rum River 13-11. Jeff Amann was the starting pitcher, he went 5 innings and had 7 strikeouts and Travis Moreno closed out the game. This game had some highlights and low lights, as the Stone Poneys had a season high 15 hits, but they did commit  7 errors. Leading their offense was new comer Travis Moreno as he had a great night at the plate with his 4-5 performance, including 1 double and 2 RBI's. Austin Timm went 2-5, Dan Gaughan went 3-5 and Jordan Clitty was 2-4. Jim Gabrielson had a big hit, as he had a double to drive in three runs to tied the game up in the bottom of the 8th.

The Rockies of the Central Valley League topped Farming of the Stearns County league 13-3 in 7 innings by the ten run rule. Jeff Lindholm was the winning pitcher as he threw 7 innings and gave up just 5 hits. Marshall Wirtzfeld closed out the final 2 innings. The Rockies offense had several leaders, David Jonas had 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI's, Jake Hennen a double and 3 RBI's. Ryan Bell had 2 hits and 2 RBI's, Paul Schreiner had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Kevin Wenner had one hit and a RBI. Big John Rossman had a double and scored 2 runs. 

On Thursday June 5th the Rockies of Cold Spring dropped a close game to Central Valley League foe Pearl Lake 4-2. John Rossman had the mound duties as he threw 8 1/3 innings and Chris Lardy finished the game. Paul Schreiner was the leading hitter going 2-3 with 1 run scored and a walk. Marshall Wirtzfeld 1-3 with a RBI and one sacrifice, David Jonas was 1-4 with a double and a run scored.


Games played on Friday June 6th

The Springers of Cold Spring hosted their Merchants night; they topped Richmond of the Stearns County League 5-0. They had some very solid pitching performances by two individuals just back from their college competition. Matthias Butala earned the win as he threw five good innings with 5 strike outs and just one hit allowed. Sean Terres pitched four relief innings and he was lights out as he had 10 strikeouts and he gave up one hit. The Springers offense was led by Jeron Terres as he had a 3-3 night with 3 singles, 2 RBI's and a run scored. Garrett Fuchs was 2-4 with a RBI, Sacrifice and a run scored, Ben Griffin was 1-2 with a RBI and Ryan Holthaus was 1-2 with a walk, sacrifice and a RBI. 

The Muskies dropped a slugfest to a Victory League foe Nisswa 11-10, Cole Jenkins was the pitcher of record as went 5 innings and Max Koprek three 3 innings. The offensive leaders for the Muskies were; Tim Burns went 3-4 with a double and a RBI, Adam Wenker went 3-4 with a RBI, Jace Otto 2-5 with a RBI, Luke Sweeter went 2-5 scored two runs and he had a stolen base, and Brian Schellinger was 1-5 with a RBI. The Muskies did have a total of 13 hits but two big 3 run homers by a former minor leaguer did them in.

The Express of Kimball topped Clear Lake of the Sauk Valley League 9-6 with Aaron Laabs being the pitcher of record. Adam Beyer was the offensive leader as he went 2-4 with 3 RBI's including a home run and he scored 3 runs. Brooks Marquardt was 1-4 with a RBI and 2 runs scored,  Joey VanWalde was 1-2 with 2 RBI's, Zach Dingmann 1-4 with 1 RBI and Ben Johnson was 2-4. Chase Aleshire was the pitcher of record for Clear Lake. Matt Korter lead the Lakers offense as he had a single, double and a triple. Darren Prom has a very good day at the plate as he collect three hits.


Games played on Saturday June 7th 

The Cyclones of Sauk Rapids topped Lakewood League rival the Brainerd Bees 8-5 with Andy Henkemeyer getting the pitching win with 7 innings of work and allowed just two runs. Henkemeyer supported his own cause with a double and Joel Haller had a big double in the top of the 4th to drive in 3 runs.

The Express of Kimball topped North Star League foe Cokato 5-3 with Zach Dingmann getting the pitching win with 6 strike outs and he scattered 4 hits over 7 innings. Brooks Marquardt threw one inning and Ben Johnson earned the save with 3 strike outs in the 9th inning. Kyle Winter was 3-4 with a double and a RBI, Ben Johnson was 1-4 with home run and 2 RBI's and Aaron Knaus went 2-3 with a RBI.

The Lakers of Avon topped New Munich of the Stearns County League 3-2, Putter Harlander was the starting pitcher and Jacob Schoenberg got the save. The leading hitters for the Lakers were; Reed Voit 1-3 with 2 RBI's, Cody Stich 2-3, Scotty Litchy was 1-2 with 2 runs scored, Rich Hendrickson was 1-3 1 run scored and Luke Manthe was 0-2 with a RBI.

The Stone Poneys of Sartell topped Eastern Minny League foe Chisago Lakes 13-0 in 7 innings. Alex Lotthammer was the winning pitcher with 7 innings of work 16 strike outs and just 2 hits given up.  Leading the offense was Pat Dolan as he went 2-4 with a double and a RBI, Jeff Amann had 2 RBI's, Brandon Reinking had 2 RBI's, Alex Lotthammer had 2 RBI's and Jordan Clitty was 2 for 3 with a double and a a RBI.


Games played on Sunday June 8th 

The Muskies of Sartell topped Sauk Valley League rival Clear Lake 12-2 in  7 innings, behind yet another good pitching performance by David Deminsky, he threw 6 innings, gave up 5 hits and he recorded 11 strikeouts. The Muskies offense was led by Tim Burns, as he went 4-5 with 2 home runs, double and 3 RBI's and Brian Schellinger went 2-2 with 3 RBI's. Jake Sweeter was 3-5 with a RBI and a stolen base, Rob Voshell was 3-5 with 3 runs scored. Luke Sweeter went 1-4 including a double for 2 RBI's and Jace Otto was 2-3 with one RBI.  The Muskies are now 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the Sauk Valley League. They had a total of 18 hits on the day. R. J. Cervanka was the pitcher of record for the Lakers

The Express of Kimball topped Central Valley League rival Watkins 2-0 behind a very good pitching performance by Matt Dingmann. Matt threw 8 1/3 innings with 5 strike outs and just 5 hits given up. Brook Marquardt got the save with 1 inning of work. Joey VonWalle had a double to drive in one of the two runs and Scott Marquardt went 3-4 with a double run scored and a RBI, and Brook Marquardt went 1-3 with a run scored. The Express are now 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the Central Valley League.

The Joe's of St. Joseph topped Sauk Valley foe Foley behind Chad Schagel's strong pitching performance. He threw a complete game recording 8 strikeouts and just one walk. Brandon Bloch went 2-4 with 2 RBI's, Tyler Mueller went 2-4 with 2 RBI's. Greg Anderson went 2-4, Alex Kendel went 2-4 and Ethan Carlson went 2-5.

The Lakers of Avon dropped a close one to Victory League foe St. Wendel 2-1, Scott Litchy took the pitching loss with 6 2/3 innings and just 4 hits given up. Scott did record 7 strikeouts in a good pitching performance. Rich Hendrickson went 2-4, Taylor Holthaus 1-4, Scott Litchy 1-4, Tony Schoeberg was 1-4 and Adam Harlander was 1-2.

The Stone Poneys topped East Minny League foe Nowthen 8-3 with Rob Gabrielson going 5 1/3 innings and Jeff Amann going 3 2/3 innings to record the win. Travis Moreno was 1-3 with a home run, Rob Gabrielson was 1-4 with a double an a RBI, Jim Gabrielson was 1-4 with a double, Jake Wenzel was 2-5 with a RBI and Jeff Amann was 2-4 with a RBI.

The Gussies of St. Augusta topped Central Valley League foe Eden Valley 8-1, Zach Laudenbach was the winning pitcher, he gave up just 2 hits in 7 innings. Adam Gwost had 2 hits and 4 RBI's to lead their offense. Dusty Schulzetenberg, Brady Grafft, David Fritz and Matt Skaja each had two hits.

The Rockies of Cold Spring had a good weekend showing at the Stearns County Classic Tourney as they 2-1 with big wins over the Sobieski Ski's 11-1 and St. Martin Martins 5-1. They did drop their quarterfinal to host team Lake Henry 12-4. In the Lake Henry game Josh Porwoll took the pitching loss with 5 innings of work he did record 5 strike outs. Jake Hennen had a big game as he went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI'S. The bats came alive against the Sobieski Ski's with Blaine Athman getting the complete game win with 5 innings of work. They ended by way of the ten run rule after 5 innings. Kevin Wenner was the offensive hero as he went 3-4 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI'S. David Jonas had a home run and 2 RBI's, Paul Schreiner had a home run and 2 RBI's, Mike Holbrook had 2 hits and 2 RBI's and Michael Wirtzfield had 2 hits. The Rockies topped the co-host team St. Martin 5-1 with Rick Burtzel getting the pitching win with 6 innings of work. David Jonas was 2-3 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI's and Paul Schreiner was 3-3 including a double.


The Saint Cloud Beaudreau's went 1-2 at the Stearns County Classic; in the quarterfinals they ran into Midway. The Saints took a early lead; 5-0 going into the fourth inning. Brad Haag was sailing along and then the Midway crew exploited for 6 hits and 5 runs. Chris Koenig came in to relief and the hitting barrage continued, when it ended was after they had batted 11 in the inning. Ryan Schneider was 1-3 with a 2 run homer, Nick Maiers was 1-4, Sean Giambruno 1-1 with a RBI and a sacrifice and Waylon Bemboom was 1-3 with 2 runs scored. The Saints fell to a hot hitting team 22-5. The Saints dropped their second game to St. Martin 1-0, Garrett Anderson was the pitcher of record as he threw a complete. Big Country scatter 5 hits in a very good pitching performance. Waylon Bemboom was 2-2 with a walk and Ryan Schneider was 1-3. The Saints topped a tough Sobieski team 9-3 with D. J. Schleicher's solid pitching performance and David Koenig was the pitcher of record as he picked up the win with 3 innings of relief and 5 strike outs. The game went extra innings and in the top of the 8th inning Nick Maiers hit a grand slam home run. Ryan Schneider went 2-5 and Waylon Bemboom went 2-3 with a walk.
