MINNEAPOLIS (KNSI) – Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno once again put the Minnesota Twins in a position to win a game and the offense left no doubt as Darrin Mastroianni and Ryan Doumit each homered in a 9-2 Twins victory over the Detroit Tigers Monday night.

In what has become his trademark fashion, Deduno worked around five walks to allow just a single run through his first seven innings. The righty allowed just a single run on two hits through those seven. Deduno left the game in the eighth without recording an out, but still had a solid showing, allowing three runs on five total hits with six strike outs to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Early in a close game Mastroianni buoyed the Minnesota attack. The speedy right-fielder, in the line-up partly due to Denard Span sitting out with a shoulder injury, hit his third home run of the season in the fifth inning to put the Twins up 2-1. Then in the sixth he singled with two outs to bring in a pair of insurance runs. In all Mastroianni went 3-for-5 with three RBI and sits percentage points away from a.300 average on the season.

Doumit's death nail blast in the seventh capped a productive night at the plate for the Twins catcher. Doumit singled in the second, then again in the sixth when he came around to score the first insurance run of the game. Much like Mastroianni, the three hits for Doumit brought his average close to the coveted .300 mark. Jamey Carroll became the third Twin with three hits Monday when he singled for the third time in the seventh.

Monday marked the 50th win of the season for the Twins and the first over Detroit at Target Field this year.
The series continues Tuesday with Brian Duensing (2-7, 4.46) on the hill for the Twins taking on the Tigers Doug Fister (6-7, 3.48) at 7:10.
