ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - In 2013, the St. Cloud State Husky hockey team will move to the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference. Yesterday, the conference announced that Minneapolis' Target Center will be the site of their conference tournament.

The agreement was part of a five year deal, in which the semi-finals and finals will be broadcast by CBS Sports network. Target Center Vice President and General Manager Steve Mattson says that the building, which opened in 1990, and has a capacity of 20,500, is more than ready for some hockey.

"Target Center was actually designed with the intention of being a dual tenant NBA/NHL venue," Mattson said. "We have a long history of hosting an array of hockey events."

National Collegiate Hockey conference commissioner Jim Scherr says that all the factors make the Target Center the perfect choice.

"We feel with this arena, the City of Minneapolis, the amenities that it offers to our fans, the fan base that our conference has here, and the tradition of hockey in the state of Minnesota, we have a winning combination for a conference championship," Scherr said.  "We couldn't be more pleased and proud to have our inaugural conference championship here at Target Center."

The St. Cloud State Huskies will play one more final season in the WCHA before making the switch in 2013-2014 season.
