A sell-out crowd at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center saw the No. 1 ranked team in the country fall to the home team, as the St. Cloud State Huskies defeated the Minnesota Gophers 4-1 on Halloween night. It was the first loss of the season for the Gophers and the first Friday night victory of the season for the Huskies.

Scoring started late in the first-period as Kalle Kossila found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Soon after, Husky forward David Morley surprised the Gophers late in the first-period as he scored with just 2.4 seconds left on a delayed penalty. The first-period ended with a St. Cloud State 2-0 lead over Minnesota, with the shots-on-goal also favoring the Huskies 13-9.

The delayed penalty carried over to the second-period and the Gophers special teams began to struggle. Jonny Brodzinski capitalized with a power-play goal just 72 seconds into the second-period to put the Huskies up 3-0.

In the first two minutes of the third-period, nine seconds seperated two Gopher penalties assessed to Kyle Rau (cross-checking) and goaltender Adam Wilcox (high-sticking). The Huskies long 5-on-3 power-play allowed Joey Benik to score and give the Huskies a commanding 4-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Hudson Fasching knocked the puck off the post and in to end goaltender Charlie Lindgren's shutout bid. The score put the Gophers on the scoreboard with 15:42 left in the third-period and would hold for the rest of the game.

Lindgren stopped 31 of 32 Gopher shots in his third victory of the season. Adam Wilcox turned away 33 of 37 Husky shots in his first loss.

Game two of the series continues Saturday afternoon at Mariucci Arena. The drop-of-the-puck is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and you can listen to the game on Lite Rock 99.9 and with coverage starting at 3:30 p.m..
