MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Terry Ryan says he doesn't want to hear about this year's baseball draft class being weaker than recent seasons.
With the second overall pick, and three selections in the top 42 choices, the Minnesota Twins general manager says they have to make the most of their many opportunities. The draft begins on Monday and the Twins have a major need for pitching.
Ryan says the overall talent in the draft is a little thinner than years past, but they're not using that as an excuse. The Twins desperately need to add starting pitching talent and replenish a farm system that has suffered from some stumbles in recent drafts.
Ryan says ''if we don't get any good players out of this draft then shame on us.''
