ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A member of the Stearns County Emergency Management Department is heading to Florida as Hurricane Irma bears down on the state.

The representative from Stearns County will join emergency professionals from 16 state agencies that Governor Dayton has authorized to respond to the hurricane.

The governor's office says Governor Dayton approved the request for assistance through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) for a Type III Incident Management Team to help with response and recovery efforts.

Dayton says Minnesota stands ready to assist those affected by Hurricane Irma in any way its able.

"I thank the brave women and men who will travel to Florida from Minnesota, to assist in response and recovery efforts," Dayton said.

"I encourage all Minnesotans who are able to contribute to qualified relief efforts."

The Minnesota All Hazards Incident Management Team deployed to Florida consists of a person from each of the following agencies.

Anoka County Emergency Management
Anoka County Emergency Management
Allina Health
Andover Fire
Bloomington Fire Department
Brainerd Fire Department
Eden Prairie Fire Department
Excelsior Fire District
New Brighton Public Safety
Fridley Fire Department
Plymouth Fire Department
Stearns County Emergency Management
Hennepin County Emergency Management
Scott County Emergency Management
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office
Itasca County Emergency Management

Most of the team will be working out of Tallahassee, providing assistance with planning, logistics and resource request processing.

Some may be sent to individual counties depending on the state's needs.

Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) is a mutual aid agreement between all 50 states.
